Manufacturing Process
- Raw material selection – First, stoneware clay is selected as the material and kneaded to prepare it for shaping.
- Shaping – The bell form is shaped using hands or a mould can be used to achieve a consistent shape. Clapper is crafted separately and attached at a later stage.
- Drying – The bell is air-dried slowly for a few days to prevent cracking. When it hardens, it undergoes further drying before the firing process.
- Firing – In the next stage, the dried bell is fired in a kiln at a low temperature. The firing process hardens clay, which is later prepared for glazing.
- Glazing – At this stage, the bell is glazed for color, desired texture, and finish. The product is then painted, and designs are added to the bell.
- Glaze Firing – After painting, the glazed bell is fired at high temperatures, which vitrifies the glaze and strengthens the structure.
- Assembly and finishing – This is the final stage, where the wire is added to the clapper and then attached to the bell. Later, the bell is polished to give it a shine. At last, the product is then tested for sound and finishing.
