History of Dhokra Art
Manufacturing Process
- Creation of a Wax model: At first, the artisan creates a detailed model through beeswax, which is made with nut oil and resin.
- Clay Modelling: After that, the wax model is coated with riverbed clay to make a strong outer shell.
- Removing Wax: After that, the lost wax technique is used, in which the clay model is heated at high temperatures. It causes wax to melt and drain out of any hollow cavity.
- Molten Metal casting: After that, molten brass is poured into the cavity to shape it.
- Breaking mould: Once the Brass is cooled, it is broken, and later, the raw metal figure emerges from the cavity.
- Finishing touches: At last, the finished piece is polished to get a golden shine. Then at last, the figures are put in the frame.
