Manufacturing Process
- Wool Preparation: Artisans carefully select raw sheep wool which is further cleaned to remove dirt and impurities, and then carded using a comb-like tool to ensure that the wool is soft and fluffy for crafting. The wool can be white or dyed.
- Felt Formation: The wool is spread out in thin layers. Then warm water, along with soap or detergent, is applied to the wool to open the fibres. After this, the wool is agitated by rolling, pressing, or even hand-twisting to encourage the fibres to bind together and form a felt sheet.
- Shaping and Cutting: The felt sheet is cut into various shapes to create décor pieces like Santa Claus, stars, snowman, gloves, animal miniatures, and toys. Each piece is carefully crafted to achieve precise designs.
- Needlework: Artisans begin needle felting by rolling a small amount of wool and repeatedly stabbing it with a felting needle. This process causes the fibres to interlock as they are pulled inward by the needle, gradually forming a solid structure. It requires detailed craftsmanship, as artisans intricately turn and shape the wool to achieve the beautiful and expressive forms of the desired decorative pieces.
- Embellishment: Artisans add vibrant embroidery using bright threads. To enhance its aesthetic appeal, small sequins and beads are meticulously stitched into the design, bringing texture and charm to the finished decorative piece.
