Preserving Cultural Tradition
Agra stone art and craft have their roots in the Mughal Empire. Artists were brought to India to create grand monuments, blending Indian and Islamic styles. Manufacturing Process
- Extraction: Raw soapstone is manually extracted from surface quarries, making it easy to mine by hand.
- Cutting and Hardening: The extracted stone is cut into manageable pieces while moist, then dried in the sun to harden for crafting.
- Rough Shaping: Soapstone blocks are shaped into the primary form, revealing natural hues and patterns.
- Precision Carving: Skilled artisans refine the shape through detailed carving, followed by sanding for a smooth finish.
- Dyeing and Etching: Carved soapstone is dyed with natural pigments and etched with designs to showcase its natural colour.
- Final Polishing and Inspection: The piece is polished with natural wax, inspected for quality, and packaged without plastic, resulting in unique, handcrafted art.
