Discover this matte finish Brass coffee filter, it is a blend of cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship. Skilled artists have engraved motifs on the filter to give it a sophisticated look. It can be used to brew coffee in a conventional style in the iconic container. In South India, it is popularly known as a drip filter or even a filter coffee maker. This coffee maker is used as a staple in various South Indian households due to its strong and flavoured coffee.
It is a cylindrical-shaped container that includes four parts: the top chamber, the bottom container, the pressing disc or plunger and the Lid. In this coffee filter, two cylindrical-shaped containers are put on top of one another. The top chamber has tiny holes at the bottom, which allows hot water to drip into the bottom container. In this process, firstly, ground coffee is added to the top chamber and then pressed with the plunger. Then hot water is added to the top compartment, and slowly, water drips into the bottom chamber. The top Lid helps maintain the filter's temperature, which aids in the brewing process and prevents heat loss. Then, after a few minutes, the decoction collected in the bottom chamber will be added to a coffee mug with sugar and milk.

Manufacturing Process
- Designing
- Concept Creation: Artisans start by developing a design often inspired by traditional patterns or modern trends.
- Pattern Making: Detailed patterns are drawn to guide the entire production process.
- Casting
- Mould Preparation: Molds are created from sand or clay based on the design patterns.
- Melting Brass: Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, is melted in a furnace.
- Pouring: The molten brass is carefully poured into the moulds to form the basic shape.
- Cooling: The cast brass is left to cool and solidify.
- Shaping and Trimming
- Removing from Mold: Once cooled, the brass items are removed from the moulds.
- Trimming: Excess material and rough edges are cut to refine the shape.
- Hammering and Forming
- Hand Hammering: Skilled artisans use hammers to shape and smooth the brass, adding intricate details.
- Annealing: The brass is heated and cooled to make it easier to work with.
- Engraving and Embossing
- Hand Engraving: Artisans use fine tools to engrave detailed designs onto the brass surface.
- Embossing: Techniques are used to create raised patterns on the brass.
- Polishing
- Initial Polishing: The brass is polished manually to smooth the surface.
- Final Polishing: Fine abrasives and compounds, such as colour buffing, achieve a high-gloss finish.
- Enameling (Minakari)
- Applying Enamel: Vibrant colours of enamel are applied to the engraved designs, and small motifs are stamped on matte-finish products.
- Firing: The item is fired in a kiln to fuse the enamel with the brass.

- Labelling: Items are labelled with product information and sometimes the history of Moradabad brass work.
Note
- Clean instruction: Rinse the coffee filter after brewing with warm water. Remove any residue inside with a soft brush to prevent tarnish later. Dry the coffee filter parts after cleaning.
- Leaving coffee in the filter: Don’t keep brewed coffee in the filter for an extended period, as it can react with brass, potentially resulting in corrosion. So, after brewing, transfer the decoction to a different container.
- Natural cleaners: To remove the tarnish, use a mixture of salt, lemon juice, and tamarind pulp with baking soda to scrub, then rinse with water.
- Image discrepancies: Images may differ from the actual product in form and colour due to variations in screen resolutions and device settings.
