Preserving timeless craftsmanship
Kansa is a traditional alloy made up of Copper and Tin and holds a significant place in
Ayurveda. For centuries, it has been valued not just for its durability but also for its role in
mindful living. According to Ayurveda, dining in Kansa vessels is believed to balance the body’s
doshas and support digestion. Each piece is handcrafted by Indian artisans using traditional
techniques, preserving cultural legacy and holistic wisdom. Kansa is a way of life, which blends
tradition, wellness and conscious craftsmanship that comes together in everyday rituals.
Manufacturing Process
- Preparation of Alloy and Melting: Kansa is developed using copper and tin. Metals are melted in an induction furnace using medium-frequency induction heating for uniform heating and reduced impurities. The alloy is mixed thoroughly and its composition verified before casting.
- Casting: Molten Kansa is poured into preheated metal moulds using gravity or die-casting methods to shape the product. After cooling, the casting is removed for further processing.
- Shaping and Machining: The rough casting is reshaped using hammers. Precise measurements are then taken, and a machining centre is used to produce the final form, particularly for massage tools.
- Finishing: Abrasive tools are used to smoothen the surface, followed by buffing for a polished, clean finish.
- Cleaning/Quality Control: Ultrasonic cleaners remove residues in the final stage. Each piece undergoes quality control to ensure accuracy and compliance with food safety standards.
Note
- Hand wash: Clean Kansa products with mild dish soap and a soft sponge. Avoid harsh detergents, and do not use a dishwasher to prevent damage to the natural finish.
- Dry after washing: Use a soft cloth to dry Kansa products after washing to avoid water spots and maintain their natural sheen.
- Occasional Polish: Kansa develops a natural patina over time. Polish it occasionally with a mixture of tamarind paste and flour to retain its shine.
- Avoid prolonged contact with acidic foods: Acidic items like lemon juice, tomatoes, and tamarind may react with Kansa. Serve them briefly and clean the product soon after with a soft cloth.
